One Life Church | Plattsmouth, NE | Get a Life | Week 2
SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS:
1. What is a phrase about life you’ve heard or used, such as “get a life,” “that’s life,” or “a new lease on life”? What do you think it means to truly have a full life?
2. Nicodemus was a respected religious leader with an impressive spiritual résumé, yet Jesus told him he needed to be born again. Why is it tempting to rely on our good behavior, church attendance, or accomplishments instead of recognizing our need for Jesus?
3. Jesus told Nicodemus that no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. What do you think it means to be born again, and how is it different from simply trying to become a better person?
4. The sermon emphasized that God doesn't just patch up our old lives; He makes us brand new. Where do you think people are most tempted to make surface-level changes rather than allow God to transform their hearts?
5. In John 3:14–15, Jesus compared His coming crucifixion to Moses lifting up the bronze snake in the wilderness. What does this picture teach us about our sin, our need for rescue, and what Jesus has done for us?
6. John 3:16 tells us that God gave His Son so that whoever believes in Him may have eternal life. How does understanding that salvation is a gift of God's love—not something we earn—change the way we approach Him?
7. Jesus came not to condemn the world but to save it. How should this truth shape the way we view ourselves, respond to our failures, and treat people who don't yet know Jesus?
8. Nicodemus initially came to Jesus at night, later defended Him before the religious leaders, and eventually helped prepare His body for burial. What do these moments suggest about the way someone's faith can develop, and what might it look like to follow Jesus more openly when doing so carries a cost?
9. John wrote his Gospel so that people would believe Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and have life in His name. When you consider the different ways Jesus is described in John 1—as the Word, the Light, the Lamb of God, the Messiah, and the King of Israel—which of these descriptions most strengthens your faith right now, and why?
10. What is one specific step you can take this week to respond to Jesus—whether that's bringing Him an honest question, letting go of reliance on your own spiritual résumé, trusting more deeply in His sacrifice, or living more openly as someone who follows Jesus, the King? Share your step with the group and pray for one another.
