Jonah | Week 2
SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS:
1. Jonah almost had an "epic ending." If you knew you were going to die today, how would you want to go? What would be your epic story?
2. Jonah was then asked by God to go to Nineveh and lead the people to repentance, but Jonah said "No." He said, "God you are for me (Jonah), and not for them (Nineveh)." Have you run the complete opposite direction of what God is asking you to do? What happened?
3. "If you can't do anything else, you can still serve as a bad example." Jonah was exactly that. In the heat of the moment (Jonah 1:12), he declared to the people around him, "throw me overboard!" Death was preferable to the alternative. What are things that are worse than death?
4. It's easy to praise God in the midst of miracles, but what about when you're still in the middle of a storm? What storm are you facing right now?
5. Like Jonah, are you sleeping through the storm in disobedience, asking God to be "swallowed by a fish," or are you ready to follow God's call?
6. Read Jonah 2:1-2. Jonah saw death, but God saw deliverance. How have you, like Jonah, been calling out to God in the midst of your storm? What is your prayer?
7. Read Jonah 2:9. What do you need to sacrifice or lay down before God?
8. Read Jonah 2:10. God doesn't always save us in the way we want, but He saves us in the way we need. When has God answered a prayer in a way that was unexpected or even uncomfortable, but ended up being exactly what you needed? Or, if you see God currently answering your prayer, how so?
9. Pray: Praise God. Ask God to help you make it right (tackle the problem), ask Him take your problems and offer provision, and then trust Him to do the rest.
