SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS:

Opening Thought: This week’s sermon explored the difference between worldly power and Christlike service. Jesus redefined greatness—not by climbing ladders, but by taking up the cross. Use these questions to guide your group toward reflection and real-life application.

1. Personal Experience

Have you ever experienced a moment when serving someone softened your heart or shifted your perspective?

(Share about a time where compassion changed your approach to someone or something.)

2. Symbols of the Cross

What emotions or thoughts come up when you see crosses displayed in different ways—like on churches, tattoos, or jewelry?

3. Misuse of Faith for Power

In what ways have you seen people—yourself included—use faith, status, or religious symbols to gain recognition or power?

4. The Temptation of Recognition

Why do you think the desire for power or recognition can be so tempting, even in church settings?

5. Scripture Focus – Mark 10:35–45

How would you describe James and John’s request to Jesus? Was it selfish, courageous, or confused? Why?

6. The Cup of Suffering

What did Jesus mean when He asked, “Are you able to drink from the bitter cup…?” How does that challenge your understanding of following Him?

7. Redefining Leadership

Jesus says, “Whoever wants to be first must be the slave of all.” How is that different from how the world defines leadership?

8. Picking Up the Cross

What does it practically look like to “pick up your cross” today—in your workplace, home, or friendships?

9. Self-Examination

Where might God be calling you to serve more and seek control or recognition less? What makes that hard?

10. Community Commitment

How can our group support one another in growing in humility, service, and grace this week?

- Allow time for silence—some questions may require reflection.
